A top official of the Al Zayin Municipality has ordered the closure of a restaurant and a cafeteria in the Al Khaisa area for violating health standards and other municipal ordinances, the local daily Al-Sharq has reported.

Al Zayin Municipality director Fahad al-Qahtani decided to close the two establishments for two months after the owners violated Law No.8 of 1990 “concerning the monitoring of human foods and its executive regulations and decisions.”

It was learnt that the same restaurant was ordered closed for one month in 2011 hence, “the closure decision was taken within the continuous and regular campaigns, which are executed by the municipal monitoring department of the Al Zayin Municipality.”

Al-Qahtani also ordered the closure of a ladies’ beauty salon for one month after it violated the provisions of Law No.3 of 1975 “concerning the general commercial stores.”

In a related development, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has organised a field tour for inspectors of markets and shops as part of a training programme.

The training programme involved some 40 inspectors representing the municipalities, who were taught how to fill out violation records.

During the training, the inspectors were also required to record violations involving the placing of goods, equipment, and water tanks; they also recorded violation of roaming sale.

60% of home loan borrowers defaulted Abdul Rahman Mohamed al-Ibaidli, director of the housing loans department at Qatar Development Bank (QDB), said 7,400 people have benefited from home loans but 60% of the borrowers have defaulted on payment in different stages of construction, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

Al-Ibaidli said QDB does the needful to support such persons until their problems are solved and work on the remaining stages of construction is resumed, the report added.

Replying to a query pertaining to complaints from some citizens over the issue of not receiving the entire QR1.2mn loan amount, he said the housing department in the Ministry of Labour was the competent authority that determined the loan amount under Law No.2 of 2007 and based on documents submitted by the applicant indicating his repayment ability, according to the report.

On the action QDB can take if a citizen fails to complete a particular stage of construction of his house, the director said the bank studies the case in detail and decides on providing support based on a letter submitted by the client and a study carried out by its engineering department, the report stated.
