CILE to host seminar on organ donation tomorrow
The Research Centre for Islamic Legislation and Ethics (CILE), a member of Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS), will host a scientific seminar titled “Organ Donation between Islamic Ethico-Legal Discourse and Muslim Reality” this week.
Organised in collaboration with Qatar Organ Donation Centre, CILE is inviting the public to attend the seminar that takes place on the QFIS premises tomorrow from 7-9pm.
The seminar is part of a series of CILE events organised to address issues of biomedical ethics. Speakers at the latest seminar are two prominent specialists in the field of organ transplantation and related ethical issues.
Dr Mohamed Ghaly, Professor of Islam and Biomedical Ethics at CILE, will deal with “Ethical Conundrums of Organ Donation Through the Lens of Muslim Religious Scholars”, while Dr Riadh Fadhil, Professor of Urology and Transplant Surgery and director of Qatar Organ Donation Centre, will present the Doha model of organ donation under the title “Doha Model of Organ Donation: Thinking Beyond Nationality”.
10,287 abandoned vehicles cleared
As many as 10,287 abandoned vehicles, heavy machinery and equipment have been removed from the Industrial Area as part of a campaign by the committee concerned, local Arabic daily Al Sharq reported. The campaign, launched three months ago, will be continued. About 4,500 discarded tyres and more than 113 abandoned water tanks were also removed. Different types of violations were recorded against some garages and workshops with regard to the abandoned vehicles. The committee concerned has also located about 2,500 abandoned vehicles elsewhere in Qatar. These will be removed soon. Saleh al-Kuwari, the deputy chairman of the vehicles committee, told Al Sharq that the committee has been formed under a Ministerial decision in 2013 and includes representatives of different authorities. A member of the committee added that 1,288 abandoned cars were crushed after being cancelled from the records.
