The public relations (HR) department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) will hold an introductory seminar on the services of Metrash2 and the General Directorate of Borders Passports and Expatriates Affairs on February 17, at the Civil Defence Club in Bin Omran area.

The seminar, aimed for the HR heads of the companies, schools and representatives of public relations companies, will cover subjects related to the services of the General Directorate of Borders Passports and Expatriates Affairs for citizens and
expatriates.

They include those concerning the laws for regulating the entry and exit of expatriates to Qatar and their residence and sponsorship laws, services provided by the service centres of the Unified Services Department of the Ministry of Interior, the services of the Search and Follow-Up Department, and penalties for the violations of the law.

At the seminar, a lecture on community policing and Qatar’s customs and traditions will be delivered by the officers from the Capital Security Department and an introduction to the electronic services available on the website of the ministry www.moi.gov.qa, e-awareness initiative of the ministry and awareness programmes for the
companies.

The focus of the seminar will be the demonstration of the services rendered by Metrash2 by the officers from the ministry’s information technology
department.

The PR Department has urged the HR and PR heads of the companies, schools and PR offices, especially working in Doha area, to attend this seminar by registering through e-mail : [email protected] or the fax: 44323339.

Similar seminars will soon be conducted in Mesaieed, Al Khor and Rayyan areas in order to facilitate the presence of the representatives of the companies located in these areas.

 

Draft decision for issuance of Cabinet rules approved

 

The weekly Cabinet meeting, presided over by HE the Prime Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, has approved the draft decision for the issuance of Cabinet’s regulations.

The draft regulations includes rules related to the Cabinet meetings, its modus operandi, preparation for each meeting and discussing the topics referred to the Cabinet.

According to the draft regulations, the Cabinet has the authority to form permanent or provisional committees to study these topics, and thus the ministries are required to submit quarterly reports to the Cabinet about the implementation stages of their respective plans and programmes and any obstacles impeding such implementation and the best solutions.

The Cabinet also approved a draft decision on setting up an adhoc committee for heavy transport.

As per the draft decision, such a committee is to be established at the Ministry of Transport and to be in charge of studying all matters related to heavy transport.

The Cabinet draft decision on amending some provisions of the Decision No 10 of 2007 for establishing the National Committee for Civil Aviation Security was also approved.  

The amendment provides for restructuring the committee which will report the Minister of Communications and the Minister is to submit the committee’s report to the Cabinet.

The Cabinet reviewed the letter of the Qatar National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (QNCPW) concerning the 27th report of the committee’s works for the period from September 1  to 31 December, 2013 and took the appropriate decision.

The report said that the QNCPW has worked out the State’s national report of 2013 on the execution of the UN programme of action to combat the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. 

The Cabinet also approved the draft agreement on air services between the governments of Qatar and of Malawi.

 

QP Dukhan organises fitness activities

Qatar Petroleum’s Dukhan Operations marked National Sport Day on Tuesday, with many people within the Dukhan community joining in the fun and celebrations while participating in activities to keep fit.

The day commenced with a hearty breakfast at Dukhan iPark at 8am. In his comments on the occasion, Ahmed Saif al-Sulaiti, operations manager-Dukhan Fields, said QP’s Dukhan Operations is proud to participate in the celebration of Qatar’s National Sport Day 2014, and wished all participants a safe and fun-filled holiday.

A tee-off for the golf tournament at the Dukhan Golf Club  was followed by various tournaments and events including tennis, children’s football, basketball, badminton, cricket, beach volleyball, pétanque and a walkathon. These activities were held all over the Dukhan township and there was also a Family Play Park for children.

The trophy ceremony for all winners of the sports activities was held at the Dukhan Water Sports Club, and the final event of the day was a basketball exhibition game between Dukhan and Doha teams, which was held at the Dukhan Recreation Club.

The celebration in Dukhan also involved the Ministry of Interior, through the Qatar Police Sports Association and the Community Police Section.
 Their participation was organised by Mubarak al-Hajri and Khaled al-Yazidi, respectively. They conducted activities to promote awareness on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and distributed gifts to children who took part in the competitions.

At the end of the day, al-Hajri presented Mohamed al-Baker, head of community and business relation and acting manager for integrated facilities management, with a token of appreciation for his valuable contribution in promoting excellent relations between QP’s Dukhan Operations and the Ministry of Interior.

 

Unique and entirely different Disney shows

Unique and entirely different Disney shows will be staged in the Middle East, especially in Qatar every year, disclosed Taghred Chandab, the media and communications manager of Sport Entertainment Solutions (SES).

Speaking to reporters during the sneak preview of Disney Live! Mickey’s Musical Festival, Chandab stressed her company had signed a five-year deal with FELD Entertainment to bring Disney on Ice and Disney Live to the Middle East. It has also collaborated with the Qatar Tourism Authority.

About the difference of the two Disney shows, she pointed out that Disney Live is theatrical while Disney on Ice is an arena production.

“We can come back with a magic show or with a princess show. Every year you get a different show,” she said, adding that it will continue until 2018.  She announced that another Disney on Ice show will be held in June.

 

‘Delay’ in streamlining functions of ministries hits key projects

Experts have expressed concern over the negative impact delay in the formulation and approval of the new organisational structures of ministries is having on key projects, events and services, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The new organisational structures are aimed at eliminating duplicity and similarity of functions between the ministries and other government authorities.

According to the experts, a number of departments will be transferred from the Ministry of Municipality & Urban Planning (MMUP) to the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Economy & Commerce while some will be taken from the Ministry of Environment and attached to the MMUP.

Some departments are to be transferred from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, according to the report.

They have pointed out that the directors of a few sections and departments in some ministries are delaying the announcement of new services and projects as they are not sure about how the departments will function after the organisational restructuring, the report states.

The experts have argued that the “uncertainty” may have a negative impact on the future of infrastructure projects, whose value is estimated to be billions of Qatari riyals.

According to a Qatari businessman, “delay” in the preparation of new organisational structures has led to delays in projects and tenders, the report adds.

The  Spring Festival, organised by the Da’wa and Religous Guidance Department of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, will start tomorrow at Dahl Al Hamam park.

The two-day festival, meant for families and children, will feature many activities that will contribute to promoting skills of participants through games and cultural and educational contests.
