HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and  HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani led the celebrations to mark the third edition of Qatar National Sport Day in Doha yesterday with official and popular participation.

All ministries and government departments, public and private institutions, unions and sport clubs organised sports activities and programmes for all segments of society and for different age groups.

HH the Emir participated in some of the sporting events held in different parts of the country.

He participated in the activities of Qatar Shooting and Archery Federation at Losail Shooting Complex and the activities of Al Shaqab equestrian centre.

HH the Father Emir participated in Qatar National Sport Day by riding a purebred Arabian camel at Um Ethnaytein yesterday morning.

Meanwhile,  HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani participated in activities such as jogging and football held at Qatar Sports Club.

Various sporting events were held across Qatar in sport clubs and federations in a celebration aimed at spreading awareness of the importance of sports and the need to embrace a healthy lifestyle through sport.

All sports clubs and federations opened doors to the public, turning the country to a sports ground.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a number of sporting events under the title (Proud ... Participated).

HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah led the celebrations in Al-Rifaa Street which was attended by a number of heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar, in addition to officials and staff members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

The ministry’s activities began with a 3-km march in Al-Rifaa Street.

The General Secretariat of the Cabinet celebrated the day with the participation of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.

HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Issa Saad  al-Jafali al-Nuaimi also participated in the day’s activities.

The day is celebrated in accordance with Emiri Decree No 80 of the year 2011 to mark the National Sport Day on the second Tuesday of February  every year.

Qatar is the first country in the world to set aside a day to celebrate sports.
