HE Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the sports complex for workers in Al Khor.

The Al Khor Workers Sports Complex, built by Barwa Real Estate Company, was formally opened yesterday at a ceremony attended among others by Minister of Labour and Social Affairs HE Dr Abdullah Saleh Mubarak al-Khulaifi and senior officials of the Barwa Real Estate Company.

Launched under the patronage of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, the project was designed and developed  by Barwa Real Estate Company in partnership with the Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy and Qatar Foundation.

Besides  al-Khulaifi, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Barwa Real Estate CEO  Abdulla Abdulaziz a-Subaie, Deputy CEO Ahmed Abdulla al-Abdulla and representatives from Supreme Committee of Delivery and Legacy and Qatar Foundation.

The project offers spaces for sports activities serving workers community in Al Khor and Al Shamal cities.

The inauguration, which preceded the celebrations of Qatar National Sport Day,  marks the opening of phase 1 of the project, which consists of facilities for  football, cricket, volleyball and basketball. The complex  features shops to sell food and beverages as well as other facilities.

Barwa said the sports complex was “a continuation of its aspirations to achieve sustainable growth through an investment beyond real estate”.

“It is an investment in building a solid community,” it added.

The complex is being developed in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The sports complex is being developed by Barwa with the intention of tackling  some of the urgent social requirements of the workers in Qatar, officials said.

The company has also developed facilities like Barwa Al Baraha, an integrated city featuring residential units for workers and a huge truck park.

Barwa said that it was committed to implementing safety and security measures in its day-to-day activities to ensure the well-being of the workers in its developments.
