World’s ‘largest
truck parking’


The Waseef Company, a subsidiary of the Barwa Real Estate Group, is to formally announce today the opening of what is claimed to be the world’s largest truck  parking yard at the Industrial Area. Located within the  Barwa Al Baraha project, the yard, spread over 675,878 square metres,  can accommodate 4,200 trucks, a report in the Arabic daily Arrayah said. The “Al Baraha Barwa Trucks Parking” centre has  eight entries and 12 exits. There are parking areas for long-term and short-term usage. A petrol station is  now being constructed at the site. The parking  yard will also contain garages and provide 24-hour security.


Philips to open
office in Doha


Dutch technology giant Philips intends to have a strong presence in Qatar soon and is set to open an office in Doha this year, Netherlands ambassador to Qatar Yvette Van Eechoud told Gulf Times yesterday. She was speaking on the sidelines of an event organised at her residence in Doha, where she had invited “Doha Tweeps”, people from the city who have a presence on the social media such as Twitter and Facebook.
Eechoud said a lot of people mistake Philips for being a company based in some other country and added that it was great that a renowned Dutch company would soon have a presence in Qatar. Page 8


Father Emir
visits exhibition


HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani yesterday visited the Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Exhibition “A Story of a Leader”, being held at Qatar Museums Authority Hall in Katara. He toured the exhibition and examined the antiques and historic photographs on display. He also listened to a briefing from exhibition officials.
