The Ministry of Business and Trade has finalised procedures to recall more than 40,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles to install them with a Brake Override System (BOS).

This drive follows two months of meetings between the Consumer Protection Department (CPD) at the ministry and the local agent of Toyota and Lexus, Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros Co (AAB).

All the phases of the recall campaign were discussed and a co-ordination and follow-up mechanism adopted to ensure that the owners of the affected cars are instructed on how to control unintentional acceleration and safe ways to stop it.

BOS, also called Smart Stop Technology, works through equipping the vehicle with sensors that can stop the accelerating car automatically and gradually through a computer system.

The recall campaign starts this month and will continue for a year and a half.  The targeted models include Lexus Rs, Lexus Is, Lexus Es, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Camry, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Rav4 and Toyota LC.
