Qatar residents can look forward to colder days all through January, the Qatar Meteorological Department has forecast.

“December this year has been colder than the previous year and this trend will continue in January,” an official told Gulf Times yesterday.

“The winter this year looks to be more prolonged than the recent years and January could be colder than the previous year,” she explained.

The first two weeks of January will be the coldest of the season in Qatar, according to the popular weather portal accuweather.com.

January 5 might record the coldest daytime temperature of 15C while the night temperature could be 10C.

There might be occasional rains too on the day, making it a chilly one.

Similarly, January 7 could be the coldest night with the mercury dipping to 8C and the day time temperature could be around 16C. The night temperature for the entire week will be around 10C and the day time temperature could be in the range of 15-19C.

The overall forecast for January, according to Accuweather, suggests that the daytime weather could be in the region of 15-20C and night time temperature could be 10-15C.

There could also be occasional rains on certain days. Chilly winds on a few days in the month could make the weather colder than what it is. The weather could be warmer with the beginning of February and can get hot towards the end of February or early March.

Various outlets selling winter accessories in the country are witnessing brisk sale of room heaters, blankets, blazers and sweaters.

Some of the stores are already running short of these materials and awaiting new stocks.
