Qatargas last week held its annual Town Hall meetings that provided an open forum for employees to discuss with the senior management matters related to the company and seek clarification on a wide range of subjects and developments.

The meetings were held over two days - one at Al Khor Community and the other at the
Qatargas head office in Doha.

Qatargas CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani and members of the company’s management leadership team participated in the event, which was aimed at reinforcing the open communications policy adopted by Qatargas at every level.

A highlight of the evening was a presentation of the company’s achievements in 2013 by the Corporate Planning Department. The presentation described how Qatargas’ achievements align with Qatar’s National Vision, which aims to transform Qatar into an advanced country by 2030, capable of sustaining its own development and providing for a high standard of living for all of its
people for generations to come.

The year 2013 has witnessed record revenue and production for Qatargas, underlining its significant contribution to the national economy. The detailed engineering work for Laffan Refinery 2 project, expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2016, kicked off in April this year. Qatargas’ Plateau Maintenance Project also achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the Consent to Operate from Qatar’s Ministry of Environment.  The project is expected to be completed early next year.

In 2013, Qatargas has made significant achievements in establishing relationships with new customers as well as strengthening existing customer relations. Singapore received its first ever LNG cargo from Qatargas, which also delivered its first cargo to Malaysia, a new and promising LNG market. Also in 2013, commissioning cargoes were delivered to China National Offshore Oil Corporation and PetroChina.

Throughout 2013, the company has demonstrated continued commitment to safety with strong training attendance and several key safety milestones. In early 2013, Qatargas launched the “10 Life Saving Rules”, which set out clear and simple “dos and don’ts” covering activities with the highest potential safety risk.

The Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery project recorded 15mn man hours without any lost time incident. When completed in 2014, the project will recover 90% of the gas currently being flared during LNG ship-loading. Outstanding safety performance was also achieved across Qatargas’ offshore operations with the completion of 11 years without a lost time accident.

In 2013, Qatargas has won an award for “support and liaison with the education sector” at the Annual Qatarisation Awards. In addition to actively participating in Qatar Career Fair 2013, the company also took part in a Career Fair for Qatari students in the UK.

Qatargas continues to host the “Women in the Workplace” programme that supports the energy and industry sector’s “Women in the Workforce” initiative.  The programme, part of Qatargas’ efforts in support of the Human Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, helps women build confidence to work effectively in the world of business.

As part of its Cadre Leadership Development Programme and its continuing outreach to the local community, Qatargas has organised a leadership development event titled “Leading in Action” in co-operation with Al Khor
International School.

Qatargas’ initiatives aimed at responsible environmental management has resulted in achieving significant reduction in flaring at its facilities. The company has also developed strategies for improved waste water treatment.

Employees were also updated on the development and execution of the new Qatargas Management System that will enable the company to sustainably deliver on its business fundamentals and achieve the LNG premiership
aspiration.

During the meetings, employees from all departments put forward their suggestions, asked questions and openly communicated on a wide range of subjects.
