The Indian embassy yesterday mourned the death of humanitarian worker Abdul Khader Haji (Hajikka) at its community house.
Hajikka, a widely respected Indian expatriate, passed away in Doha on Saturday and was buried in Abu Hamour the following day.
Describing Hajikka as a true humanitarian worker who dedicated his life to the welfare of the needy and deserving sections among the country’s expatriate communities, the mission said his death had left a void which would be difficult to fill.
The embassy also recalled Indian Ambassador Sanjiv Arora’s participation at the condolence meeting held in memory of Hajikka at the Indian Cultural Centre on December 22.
While paying tribute to Hajikka, the ambassador had said he was a role model worth emulating. “Despite his adverse health conditions, Hajikka had dedicated his life for the selfless and noble services of the people of different communities and earned remarkable goodwill among the country’s residents,” Arora said at the meeting on Sunday.
The ambassador hailed the suggestion made by community members to set up something in memory of Hajikka. Arora also suggested holding an essay competition for students of Indian schools in Qatar on “How to serve the community”.
