Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has highlighted the need for the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) to upgrade its services to higher levels in order to meet the expectations of the country’s residents.
Inaugurating an annual forum at Grand Hyaat Hotel yesterday HE al-Sada said this year’s theme ‘Strategic Transformation in Performance’ reflected the corporation’s response to the goals and objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The QNV has stressed the importance of economic development, increased environmental consciousness, cultural development and capacity building of national human resources.
The two-day forum is being held to review the progress of the departments’ plans.
The minister spoke on the inevitability of Kahramaa upgrading to cope with developments in the country as part of the administrators’ mission to realise the goals of QNV 2030.
While reviewing the corporation’s performance, and complimenting the achievements under the Tarsheed campaign to conserve energy and water resources, the minister expressed happiness at “balanced growth” in the utilities sectors.
The five-year Tarsheed project aims to reduce consumption of water and electricity in five years by 35% and 20%  and is run under the patronage of HH The Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. As part of the campaign a large number of awareness sessions are held at the country’s schools and mosques.
The minister called upon Kahramaa staff to strive to meet the challenges arising from rapid urban and infrastructural expansion.
Kahramaa president and senior engineer Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari hailed the corporation’s achievements in successfully meeting increased demand for water and electricity while maintaining the highest international standards.
The Kahramaa chief also expressed happiness at the performance of the GCC Inter-connectivity grid of which Qatar is a major stakeholder as an energy surplus nation.
Kahramaa, he said, should be prepared to meet growing challenges in the utilities sector through more effective and efficient planning in coming years.
The two-day forum hosts Kahramaa directors, managers, and head of sections and reviews departments’ plans during the period 2014 and 2018. Detailed deliberations on the corporation’s business development plans, worth several billions, also feature in the event.
The forum’s strategic importance can be gauged from the fact that it sets the road map for development in electricity, water and customer services sectors for the next five years.
