More than 40 primary school teachers from 22 of Qatar’s independent schools have been selected to participate in the 2013 Qatar University ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, an innovative professional development programme.
Qatar University’s National Centre for Educator Development and ExxonMobil Qatar are teaming up to provide the week-long programme designed to help fourth, fifth and sixth grade educators develop innovative math and science teaching skills. The programme will run until November 28 in Doha.
“We are extremely pleased to host the second edition of Qatar University ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. The academy signifies the commitment we have as a university to providing quality education to Qatar’s residents, and it also meets the objectives of the human development pillar of the National Vision 2030, to provide a strong knowledge base for Qatar’s citizens,” said Dr Hissa Sadiq, dean, College of Education at Qatar University.
“ExxonMobil is committed to ensuring that students are fully prepared to compete in today’s global economy,” said Abdullatif al-Naemi, national development manager for ExxonMobil Qatar.
Qatar University and the Supreme Education Council selected the educators who will take part in this year’s academy based on their qualifications and commitment to teaching.
Participating teachers will enhance their understanding of math and science content, build on their expertise in facilitating student learning through problem-solving and inquiry, and use links between math and science to support their students’ learning. By inspiring teachers in math and science, and equipping them with interactive teaching tools, teachers can help ignite their students’
passion for these subjects.
