The seventh edition of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - GCC conference and exhibition will be held at Qatar National Convention Centre from next Monday.
The event, which has “Towards Improving the Quality of Life” as its theme, is being organised by Qatar Society of Engineers (QSE) for the first time in Qatar. A forum will be held ahead of the conference to discuss the challenges facing women engineers in the region. A large number of women engineers from GCC countries are expected to participate in the forum.
“We have made all necessary preparations to ensure that the conference is a great success. It has already evoked positive response from many local, regional and international entities in the field,” said Hassan al-Marzouqi, QSE secretary-general and head of the financial and administrative committee of the conference.
Dr Nasser al-Emadi, head of the scientific committee, said six main topics of discussion would be addressed by experts and specialists during the conference. These include computers and information systems, modern industrial applications, electronics, cyber security, green energy, modern trends in communications and challenges of engineering education.
Further, around 120 new research papers will be presented during the conference, which concludes on November 20.
Dr al-Emadi stressed that the topics of discussion were of great concern to society. “There is the confirmed participation of 16 sponsoring entities, which will all take part in the accompanying exhibition. It will focus on showcasing specialised products and innovations in the field,” said Abdulla Fakhro, head of the exhibition committee.
Representatives of the main sponsors of the conference were present at the press briefing yesterday to show their support for the upcoming event. These include Qatar Foundation, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatar Petroleum and Industries Qatar.
Yaqub al-Mulla, head of the conference, expressed his appreciation of the support of the sponsors, which played a key role in ensuring the success of such an event.

Al-Marzouqi expected more than 600 special visitors at the exhibition besides the participation of local engineers, university students and other interested persons, as well as GCC and international guests.
