HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has cabled congratulations to the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on his country’s national day.  HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani has also cabled his congratulations to the Algerian president.

 

Training for
journalists

 

Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) will organise a three-day training on social media for 15 Qatar-based journalists this month.

The training will be held in Doha from November 11 to 13. “This workshop is a continuation of the centre’s previous training efforts and part of our capacity-building plan for journalists working for Qatar-based media outlets,” said Ayman Bardawil, programmes manager, DCMF.

“Journalists must now obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to professionally engage (on) social media platforms in light of their increasing importance as sources of news as well as a means of disseminating information,” he added.

Also in November, DCMF will organise training for a group of Syrian journalists in Turkey, tackling international standards of quality, online journalism and safety.

 

Anjappar opens outlet for sweets

Anjappar Indian Restaurant (Qatar) is launching Shree Ananda Bhavan, which is famous for its unique delicacies and sweets, from Chennai on the occasion of Diwali - the festival of lights.

The sweets and savouries are exclusively prepared for the festival and available in silver, gold and platinum packs at all Anjappar outlets.

The special items include Seer murukku, Milagu murukku, Seedai, ghee badam/pista/cashew sweets, and Bengali, North Indian and assorted festive sweets. Pre-booking has started as the quantity will be limited.

Also, on Diwali (November 2), Anjappar will offer special lunch and dinner featuring festive season dishes served in a traditional manner – “Thalai vaazhai virunthu”.

 

Appointment system for dental clinics

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has started implementing a new system of appointments for the dental clinics of Al Rayyan Health Centre in a bid to solve the problem of overcrowding and lengthy queues, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

Under the new system, appointments are fixed based on the seriousness of a case as determined by a doctor, an official source has told the daily.

According to the source, the new system will be evaluated and implemented accordingly in dental clinics of other health clinics. The PHCC seeks to address the concerns of patients, including those pertaining to centres that witness a large turnout of visitors, the source further points out in the report.
