An international mushaira will be one of the highlights of the 17th annual Aalmi Frogh-e-Urdu Adab Awards, which will be held at Sheraton Doha’s Al-Majlis auditorium on October 31.
The awards will be presented to Pakistan’s Nisar Aziz Butt and India’s Nand Kishore Vikram by Majlis-e-Frogh-e-Urdu Adab, a Qatar-based literary forum.
HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari will be the chief guest. Majlis will also release a special souvenir on the occasion.
The international mushaira will see the participation of about 20 Urdu poets, writers and scholars from India, Pakistan, GCC states and the US. It will be presided over by the internationally-acclaimed poet from India, Anand Mohan Zutshi Gulzar Dehlvi.
Noted educationist and poet professor Dr Pirzada Qasim from Pakistan and well-known Urdu scholar professor Shafey Kidwai from India will be the guests of honour.
Launched in 1996, the Aalmi Frogh-e-Urdu Adab Awards comprise a gold shield and cash award of Rs150,000 for each winner. It is given annually to two Urdu creative fiction writers - one from India and the other from Pakistan - for their contribution to the promotion of Urdu language and literature.
