75% of work on
F-Ring Road
completed

An official from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has said 75% of the work on F-Ring Road has been completed and the contractors are working hard to deliver the project on time, which is the second quarter of 2014, local Arabic daily Al Watan has reported.

The official said the road is part of the highways project and will link south Doha to Hamad International Airport and connect Mesaimeer Road and the main road leading to Al Wakrah. The F-Ring Road project, which is being executed at a cost of QR837mn, will feature an 8.7km highway with 3-4 lanes in each direction, the report added.

Traffic dept
monitoring
garages

The authorities are closely monitoring garages to see if they repair vehicles without police authorisation, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported quoting a source in the Traffic Department.

The steps taken by the department in this regard have led to a reduction in complaints of vehicles fleeing accident spots, he said. Often, vehicles involved in such accidents are taken to garages that carry out unauthorised repairs, it is learnt.

The source said there are still a few cases of garages carrying out illegal repairs, adding that the department’s inspection teams often come across automobile workshops that are not registered with the competent authorities.

The inspectors have also found out that people go to these garages either because their cars have been involved in accidents or are stolen. The Traffic Police had once captured a person involved in a hit-and-run case through one such garage, he added.
