Preparations are complete for the ‘Yesudas@Doha 2013 Live Classical Concert’ tomorrow (Friday) at Qatar National Convention Centre’s Theatre, located in Qatar Foundation’s Education City in Al Luqta area.
Gates to the venue will open at 5.30pm, organisers said yesterday. The legendary Indian playback singer, Dr K J Yesudas is giving a classical concert in Qatar after three years.
He will be accompanied by S R Mahadeva Sarma (violin), Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam (mridhungam), and Thripunithura Radhakrishnan (ghatam).
A felicitation ceremony will begin at 7pm. The three-hour concert is to start at 7.30pm. The last 30 to 45 minutes are to be set apart for film-based classical music.
Yesudas, 73, has to his credit 52 years of playback singing in most Indian languages and more than 50,000 songs, apart from thousands of concerts - film and classical music - all over the world.
Qatari business establishment Marzooq Al Shamlan & Sons (MSS) is organising the event in association with Advent Worldwide. Tissot and Watch Corner are the title sponsors and Gulf Times the media partner.
“We are hosting the event for our loyal customers and not profit,” MSS managing director and noted Qatari entrepreneur Mohamed Shamlan said.
MSS general manager K V Ramakrishnan (Ravi) explained that a 60-strong team of volunteers will guide concert-goers.
Adequate signage will be put up at the venue, right from the car parking building and all the way to the theatre.
Limited tickets are available today also from various outlets in Doha. Tomorrow, tickets will be available only at the venue from 4pm.
“Seating is being provided on a first-come basis and we would advise audience members to arrive sufficiently early, especially given the current traffic situation on Doha roads,” Ravi added.
More information on the concert could be had from 70418141, 55975530 or 33928141.
