Several infrastructure projects are being implemented in Markhiya as part of plans to upgrade public services and facilities in the area, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
Dr Mohamed Jassim al-Mislimani, member of the Central Municipal Council for Markhiya constituency, said several projects have been completed as part of Hazm Al Markhiya’s infrastructure development, undertaken at an estimated QR400mn. The projects include constructing new streets, providing adequate lighting, paving and other road works, developing a water and sanitation grid, and building cycling tracks and public gardens.
Dr al-Mislimani said an Eid prayer yard measuring around 6,000sqm has been built at a cost of QR8mn in response to demands from residents of the area. Further, an 18,000sqm plot has been assigned for the creation of public service facilities such as a nursery, neighbourhood markets and commercial outlets.
He said the authorities concerned have also completed work on five new mini-parks in different parts of the constituency and these will be handed over for
use soon.
According to Dr al-Mislimani, construction of a building housing the Al Meera commercial complex has been completed on 10,000sqm and will be ready for operation soon. Besides, a new kindergarten (13,000sqm) has also been developed and will be ready shortly.
The CMC member said 10 new neigbourhood markets are scheduled to come up in the area and expected to be of the highest standards when completed. These will help address the problem of shortage of commercial zones in the constituency.
A comprehensive infrastructure project will be launched in Duhail in September, according to the report. It will include a drainage grid, a mobile phone network and various beautification works, to be undertaken at an estimated cost of QR300mn.
“The constituency is constantly developing and the new infrastructure projects, particularly road lanes, have reflected positively on the area and the lives of its inhabitants,” said Dr al-Mislimani.
The CMC member stressed that he always maintains communication with the authorities to follow up on various development projects and convey the inhabitants’ requests to the officials concerned. “The aim is to improve the quality of life of the residents, whether locals or expatriate,” he said.
