Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC) signed an agreement yesterday with Engel & Volkers, an international company that provides real estate services, to conduct a marketing survey and feasibility study for the construction of a new tower for QIMC at West Bay. The new building will cost around QR500mn.
The agreement was signed by Abdul Rahman A  al-Ansari, chief executive officer of QIMC and Mirco Alexander Maurer, managing director of  Engel & Volkers at the office of QIMC at West Bay. The proposed tower will be around 30 floors high.
Commenting on the initiative, al-Ansari said that the present building of QIMC was built long back and there was permission to build only three floors at that time. He explained: “With the expansion in the West Bay, a number of tall buildings have come up and the recent board meeting decided to construct a new building for QIMC at its present location which is around 6,000 square metres of land.”
He added that a professional company such as Engel & Volkers was engaged for the market study to make sure what type of building was to be constructed.
Al-Ansari said that the company has another piece of land at Lusail City which is about 5,000 square metres. “We have asked Engel & Volkers to conduct a similar feasibility study about the land and the type of building to be constructed over there. Mostly it will be apartments for residential purpose.”
He added that Lusail City has already set its own standards and regulations of construction and therefore the company will follow those guidelines while going ahead with the construction.
The official  said that the company owned another piece of land in Industrial Area which could be used for setting up a warehouse. He added that the area would be used for storage of utilities as well as labour accommodation.
