More than 3,000 students participated in a painting contest and seminar on sustainable consumption, organised by International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID) and Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC), recently. Held under the patronage of FEC chairman Dr Saif Ali al-Hajari, the initiative was part of the World Environment Day (WED) 2013 celebrations in Qatar.
The two events were held to get all sections of society involved for a cause that concerns everyone. “The painting contest and seminar on sustainable consumption are part of the many initiatives we have undertaken to propagate the noble message of environmental awareness among the young population for a safe and prosperous future,” said Dr al- Hajari.
A judging panel from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar evaluated the entries of the painting contest held on the IAID premises. The contest was open to all age groups and the theme for this year’s competition was  “I Love Planet Earth”.
The seminar on sustainable consumption, “Healthy Eating for a Healthy Planet”, dealt with topics such as nutrition, food storage and tips on how to reduce food waste. It was conducted by IAID nutritionist Karishma Desai.
During the seminar, Desai shared her special simple-to-follow advice to help change the mindset of the attending parents.
