QDVC (Qatari Diar Vinci Construction) has supported the pupils and personnel of the French School Bonaparte to reach a milestone towards their project of becoming a “green school” with the installation of waste segregation bins. The paper and plastic waste will be sent to Qatari recycling companies.
“We started to brainstorm with QDVC two years ago about the project of “green school” and we appreciate their commitment and dedication,” said Hafid Adnani, the director of the French School Bonaparte.
“The best habits are the one you get during your childhood. We therefore believe that the new generation will be more aware about environmental care thanks to initiatives like waste segregation at school,” he observed.
Attending the inauguration of the sustainable initiative on Thursday, the co-operation and cultural counsellor at the French embassy, Regis Dantaux, pointed out that Qatar had emerged as a leader in terms of environmental awareness and sustainability, for instance with the host of the UN Climate Change Conference COP18 last year.
“I’m glad that the French School Bonaparte takes the same direction and starts this waste recycling programme,” he said.
“We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children,” said Sheikha Athba bint Thamer al-Thani, chief support services officer of QDVC, citing an Amerindian proverb.
“We consider at QDVC that part of our mission is to engage the next generation to raise awareness about the planet’s health. Sustainability involves us all and we are pleased to see green habits enthusiasts as the French School Bonaparte personnel and children,” she said.
Founded in 1976, the French School in Doha became the French Highschool of Doha and finally French School Bonaparte. It has moved to its current premises in West Bay in 1994. The school celebrates its 36th anniversary with several events throughout this academic year.
With 1,239 students this year, the French School Bonaparte has 67% French nationals and 43% of other nationalities.
QDVC, a Qatari shareholding Company, which has Qatari Diar and France’s Vinci Construction Grands Projects as partners, is the first Qatari construction company to have received the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System certification for on-going projects in Lusail Light Rail Transit System (LRT) and the Sheraton Park Project.
QDVC is currently working in Lusail for the Car Parks and the LRT, on the Sheraton Park Site Project, in the PS70 Doha North Sewage JV, and in the Qatar Bahrain Causeway JV for Civil Works.
