Reach Out To Asia (Rota) brand ambassador Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla al-Thani has become the first Qatari to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.

The adventurer reached the 8,848m (29,029ft) summit with a team of Arabs that named their private group “Arabs with Altitude”.

During the two-month journey, Sheikh Mohamed al-Thani was accompanied by his friends Raed Zidan (the first Palestinian man to summit Mount Everest), Masoud Mohamed, Raha Muharrak (the first Saudi Arabian woman and youngest Arab to summit Mount Everest) and videographer Elia Saikaly. They are trying to raise $1mn for education projects in Nepal.

In a congratulatory statement to Sheikh Mohamed, Rota executive director Essa al-Mannai said: “This is indeed, a proud moment for all of us. By reaching the summit of Mount Everest, Sheikh Mohamed has taken Rota to new heights, and has spread Rota’s mission and vision, that every individual has the opportunity to make a difference in their community and the world and also using sports as a tool for education.”

All of Sheikh Mohamed al-Thani’s mountaineering expeditions are connected with a noble mission of raising awareness and charity. The mission is to push his limits to reach “the seven highest summits of the
seven continents of the world”.

For Sheikh Mohamed, mountaineering is a passion. In September 2011, he climbed Mont Blanc at 4,810m. He also climbed twice the summits of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895m in March 2010 and in November 2011, respectively.

In December 2012, he reached the top of Mount Vinson, the highest peak of Antarctica, at an altitude of 4,892m, and on August 28, 2012, he reached Mount Elbrus, the highest point in Europe at 5,642m.

In October 2012, Sheikh Mohamed climbed Mount Kosciuszko, Australia, at 2,228m and on January 5, 2013 he reached the summit of Mount Aconcagua (South America), the highest peak in the Western hemisphere at an altitude of 6,960m.
