The winners of the May Queen Ball 2013 with Bollywood actor Aftab Shivdasani, London-born Indian model Nin Dusanj, Bollywood director Glen Barretto, GWA president Simon D’Silva and members of the event’s organising committee.

 

 

Corraine Santos from Kuwait was crowned the 13th May Queen at the annual beauty pageant hosted by Goa Welfare Association at Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday.

The full-house event was held in the presence of Bollywood star Aftab Shivdasani, who later crowned the winner, to thunderous applause from the big gathering.

Jolin Rodrigues was the first runner-up and Brunele D’Souza was adjudged second runner-up. London-born Indian model Nin Dusanj (Narinder Kaur) and the fiancee of Shivdasani, former Miss Singapore Kelly Kaur Adams, Bollywood director Glen Baretto, former office director of the office of CEO of Qatar Airways Archie D’Mello and Goan Welfare Association president Simon D’Silva were among those who graced the dais.

Indian ambassador to Qatar Sanjiv Arora and his wife Chhaya Arora, also attended the event. Goan band ‘Forefront’ provided a good musical feast with their  blend of vocals, instruments, rhythm and visual techniques.

Seby Pinto (bass guitar), Melvin Rosario (lead guitar),  Agnelo Mascarenhas (keyboard)  and vocalists, Savio Fernandes and Agatha Jilugu were the members of the team, with Savio also doubling up as a drummer. The beauty pageant was judged by Glen Baretto, Kelly Kaur Adams and model Nin Dusanj. Archie D’Mello was the coordinator of the judging panel. Corraine, who walked away with the crown was showered with a host of gifts and luxurious prizes including a gold necklace from Prakkat Jewellers, a Doha-Dubai-Doha return ticket sponsored by Cleopatra Travels, free seven nights stay for a family of four at the Royal Goan Beach Club, Goa, buffet dinner for two at the Ritz-Carlton-Doha, Westar wrist watches and many more prizes from the Doha Decoration Hut, Gulf Incon and Doha beauty centre. The first and second runners-up were also awarded memorable prizes. Goan student Marika Mascarenhas, who received Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser scholarship for creativity, was honoured at the ceremony.

The token of appreciation mementos were presented to Morgan Fernandes of Qatari Industrial Equipment, Ali Farabi of Qatar Airways, James John of Gulf Times, Peroz Pereira of Radisson Blu, Keiron Rodrigues and Godfrey Noronha.

The main sponsor was Qatari Industrial Equipment, the official  airline was Qatar Airways, the bank - Doha Bank, the hotel - Radisson Blu Doha and the video/photography was by Gulf Colours.
