Celebrated south Indian actor Mohanlal has said that he felt honoured for being chosen for the best actor award at the inaugural Indian Movie Awards of Qatar (ImaQ 2013).

Speaking to Gulf Times yesterday over phone from the southern Indian city of Bangalore, midway through a busy shooting schedule,  the actor said he is happy as he is the first recipient of the award instituted by a fraternity of film lovers in the Indian community of Qatar.

“Even though I have visited Doha on many occasions, this is the first time I am coming there to receive an award instituted by cinema lovers,” said Mohanlal.

The show on Friday is choreographed by director Aashique Aboo and prominent musician Stephen Devassy.

Mohanlal also said a number of widely acclaimed personalities of the Malayalam film industry, including some of the upcoming talents in cinema, music and dance would share the dais with him at the ceremony to be held at the Al Ahli Stadium tomorrow. “The show in Doha would not only be rich in terms of the number of artistes being present but it would also be a rare occasion for the audience to watch the skits and music featuring the actors and others arriving there.”

Apart from Mohanlal, other film personalities including directors Lal Jose and Anwar Rasheed, actors Pratap Pothen, Biju Menon, Saleem Kumar, Fahad Fazil, Nivin Pauly, T G Ravi, Sekhar Menon, Rima Kallingal, Isha Talwar, Remya Nambeesan, Vineet Sreenivasan, Aju Varghese, singers Vijay Yesudas,  Naresh Iyer and Zayanora, Manoj K Jayan, music director M Jayachandran and Biju Bal will be coming for the awards function.

Along with the awards function, the show also features a concert, a series of Indian and other folk dances as well as comedy skits. While some of the artistes have already arrived, most others are expected by forenoon today. The show is scheduled for a 6.30 pm start.

Well-known NRI entrepreneur and managing director of Emke Group of Companies  M A Yusufali is the chief guest at the awards ceremony. Gulf Times is the official media.
