Indian actor Aftab Shivdasani will be in Doha next month to crown the 13th May Queen.

The Goan Welfare Association (GWA) is gearing up to host the 13th Annual May Queen Ball at Radisson Blu Hotel on May 9. The highlight of the event, which will start at 8.30pm, will be the crowning of the 13th May Queen.

Other prizes include gold, pearls, airline tickets, free accommodation in five-star hotels, electronic goods and more, said GWA president Simon D’Silva.

Aftab has appeared in several television commercials. When he was just 14 months old, he was selected to act as the “Farex baby” (baby food brand). His first Hindi film as a child actor was Mr India (1987), directed by Shekhar Kapur. This was followed by Chaalbaaz, Shahenshah and Insaaniyat.

He got the big break from filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma when he was 19. Aftab was offered the lead role opposite Urmila Matondkar in the 1999 film, Mast. This movie was a success and his performance earned him a lot of praise from the film community.

Since then, Aftab has been seen in several films. Currently, Aftab is filming for Grand Masti.

Forefront, the celebrated band from the western Indian state of Goa, will be another highlight of the show along with compere Updesh Swar and DJ Glorio.

The organisations partnering the event include Qatar Airways (official airline), Doha Bank (official bank), Radisson Blu (official hotel), Gulf Colours (official video/photography), Gulf Times (official media partner) and Daijiworld.com (official web partner).
