RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) is all set to participate in the three-day seventh annual Qatar Petroleum (QP) Environment Fair, which opens to the public at Doha Exhibition Centre today.

Under the  fair’s theme of Clean Energy for a Sustainable World, the RasGas stand will raise awareness about green buildings and the different methods through which companies and individuals can manage elements such as waste, water and electricity consumption to mitigate the environmental impact of their buildings.

In February 2012, the new RasGas headquarters in West Bay (Doha) became Qatar’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certified commercial interiors project.

To achieve the certification, RasGas had to meet LEED requirements in five key areas: sustainable sites, water efficiency, materials & resources, energy & atmosphere, and indoor environment quality. The certification recognises the company’s commitment to sustainability activities as well to the environment in areas that extend beyond its core business activities.

“The company’s sustainability objectives are well-aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, which clearly outlines protection of the environment as a key pillar of the country’s sustainable development. Through our participation in this year’s QP Environment Fair, we wish to share our unique knowledge of prudent design practices for Qatar’s urban environment with the country’s youth and future leaders,” said Brett Doherty, chief safety, health, environment and quality officer at RasGas.

In addition to presenting the environmentally-conscious practices of RasGas, the company’s stand will host a colouring competition with prizes for the winners.

The fair is being held under the patronage of HE Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Minister of Energy & Industry and CMD of QP. It will remain open to the public from 8am to 8pm on all days of the event.
