The Goan Welfare Association (GWA) - Qatar will organise the 13th Annual May Queen Ball, a dinner-and-dance event, at Radisson Blu Hotel on May 9.
Due to the overwhelming public response, the celebrated Indian band Forefront will be flown in once again to enthral the gathering. The event, which starts at 8.30pm, will also feature DJ Glorio and Updesh Swar, who will compere the show.
The highlight of the event will be the crowning of the 13th May Queen by Bollywood celebrities. Gold, pearl necklaces, electronic items and other goodies have been lined up for the occasion, GWA president Simon D’Silva said.
In the past, the show has been graced by Indian celebrities such as Aftab Shivdasani, Preeti Jhangiani, Asrani, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Remo Fernandes, Manish Goel, Poonam Goel, Rajeev Khandelwal, Chunky Pandey, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Jay Bhanushali, Mahi Vij, Shreyas Talpade, Samir Soni and Neelam Kothari, as well as Indian ministers, ambassadors to Qatar, diplomats and VIPs.
Forefront made its debut in 1991, performing in top shows across Goa, other Indian states and abroad. The band has a strong stage presence and the ability to feel the pulse of the audience. Its musical repertoire, including English retro, latest Billboard chartbusters, Bollywood and rock, ensures that every party is a success.
The band is powered by five musicians - Agatha Jilugu, Melvin Rosario, Agnelo Mascarenhas, Savio Fernandes and band leader Seby Pinto. The band represented Goa in the 15th Lusofonia Festival, which was held in Macau in October 2012. They performed along with performers from nine countries, including Brazil and Portugal, and finished a commendable second.
Along with Forefront, Goa’s well-known compere Updesh is expected to set the dance floor on fire.
GWA is involved in various welfare initiatives, including CRY, Caritas and the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, and also organises major events for the community.
The Annual May Queen Ball has been successful in getting worldwide coverage and is one of the most eagerly-awaited events among the Indian community in Qatar.
The organisations partnering the event include Qatar Airways (official airline) Doha Bank (official bank), Radisson Blu (official hotel), Gulf Colours (official video/photography), Gulf Times (official media partner) and daijiworld.com (official web partner). Further details will be announced shortly.
