HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani witnessed yesterday in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel the signing of a final peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM).  
Sudanese Vice-President Ali Osman Taha, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, head of the Darfur Regional Authority Al-Tijani el-Sisi and a number of heads of diplomatic delegations in Qatar attended the signing ceremony.
The agreement was signed, under the auspices of Qatar, for the Sudanese government by Minister of State at the Presidency and Head of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) implementation follow-up office Amin Hassan Omar, and for the Justice and Equality Movement by its chairman Mohamed Bishr Ahmad.   
After the signing, the Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani welcomed those attending the ceremony and expressed the hope that the occasion will bring peace and stability to Darfur.
The Prime Minister also conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani who has been keenly following the developments of the peace process in Darfur.
Meanwhile, Sudanese Vice-President Ali Osman Taha thanked HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani for his role in supporting Sudan in all fields, particularly in Darfur.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) yesterday, the vice-president said that the International Donor Conference for the Reconstruction and Development in Darfur was a good opportunity as it would encourage the international community to act and participate in the reconstruction of Darfur. He expressed his confidence in the conference’s ability to boost security and stability in the Darfur region.  
Taha said that Sudan needs around $7bn to meet the needs of Darfur, praising the enthusiasm of Qatar in making a contribution and encouraging the international community to contribute in helping the Sudanese government to raise that amount.  
Taha said that he expected the donors’ conference to raise considerable amount for the government to kick-start the development process in Darfur.  
On the agreement that was signed yesterday between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement, the Sudanese vice-president said that it will include the presence of institutions other than the regional authority in Darfur, in addition to the presence of a legislative and executive body which would allow all the parties in Darfur to share the responsibility. He believed that the agreement will be a huge boost to peace in the region.
On the Qatari-Sudanese bilateral relations, the Sudanese vice-president said that bilateral relations have always been distinctive, stressing on the keenness of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir to further enhance bilateral relations.
