Around 65 leading companies from the Middle East, North America, Asia and Europe took part in the second Middle East Turbomachinery Symposium (METS 2), which was held in Doha last week.
Held under the patronage of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, METS 2 took place at the Qatar National Convention Centre where delegates attended and got engaged in a combination of around 12 lectures, eight tutorials, eight discussion groups and 21 sessions of case studies, led by 133 accomplished authors from around the world.
Topics covered included compressors, steam and gas turbines, expanders, pumps and drivers, including motors, and auxiliary equipment such as couplings, bearings, gear boxes, dry gas seals and annular seals. The audience engaged in industry-related topics, leading to a quality exchange of technical knowledge and sharing of experiences.
Companies displayed full-size equipment, cutting-edge technology, and emerging industry trends. Highly-qualified technical personnel were on hand to address the business needs of delegates and the exhibitors spoke of many quality leads, which they expect to be very beneficial for their business. Exhibitors enjoyed the opportunity to form positive business relationships with users in the industry from the Middle East.
The Turbomachinery Laboratory at Texas A&M University organised the event with support from QP as the host and titanium sponsor.  The symposium’s other major sponsors included RasGas and ExxonMobil Qatar (platinum sponsors), Qatargas (gold) and Dolphin Energy (silver).
The inaugural METS took place in Doha in February 2011 with more than 1,000 attendees and 60 exhibiting companies. Following the launch, planning began for METS 2 with a goal of making the event even more successful.
This goal was met with higher attendance in technical sessions, more exhibiting companies and quality interactions.
