HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and President Ollanta Humala of Peru chairing the official talks between the two countries in Lima yesterday.

Qatar and Peru held a session of official talks at the Presidential Palace in Lima yesterday morning. It was chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and President Ollanta Humala of Peru.
The talks were attended by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, and members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir.
On the Peruvian side, the talks were attended by a number of ministers and senior officials.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them in all fields, and reviewed a number of regional and international issues of common concern.
After the talks, HH the Emir and the President of Peru exchanged Orders and Decorations where HH the Emir presented the President Humala with the Necklace of Independence, while President Humala presented HH the Emir with the Order of the Sun, which is the highest decoration in the Republic of Peru.
Then, HH the Emir and the President of Peru witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru, an agreement for co-operation in the legal field, an MoU in education and scientific research, an agreement for co-operation and joint news exchange, an MoU in mining between the Government of the State of Qatar, represented by Qatar Mining, and the Government of the Republic of Peru, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Mining, an MoU between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and the Chamber of Commerce of Peru, and an MoU on investment co-operation between Qatar Holding Company and private investment agencies in Peru.
Earlier, HH the Emir and President Humala held a bilateral meeting before the start of official talks. It was attended by the Qatari Prime Minister.  
HH the Emir was accorded an official reception ceremony.
Separately, the representatives of the finance and economy ministries expressed their commitment to start negotiations to subscribe a double taxation avoidance agreement. The negotiations are scheduled to start next March.
The Peruvian Minister of Economy and Finance Miguel Castilla, during the 3rd Summit of South American and Arab Countries which was held in Lima in October 2012, stressed that the importance to impulse this type of agreements to favour the incoming of foreign investments to the country.
In this context, the two countries expressed their satisfaction for starting the negotiations scheduled to be held in  Doha.
HH the Emir attended the luncheon banquet hosted by President Humala in his honour.  The banquet was attended by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and the Qatari delegation members.  It was also attended by a number of Peru’s ministers and senior officials.
HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani left Peru yesterday after a two-day official visit on his way to Colombia.
HH the Emir and his accompanying delegation were seen off on departure at Callao Air Base Airport by Peru’s Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo, Qatar’s Ambassador to Peru Jamal Nasser al-Bader and Peru’s Ambassador to Qatar Julio Florian.
HH the Emir was accompanied by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, and a high-level official delegation.
The Emir has sent a cable to Peru’s President Ollanta Humala in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation for the hospitality accorded to him and his accompanying delegation.Page 3
