Three pilgrims from Pakistan’s Multan, including former MNA Asad Murtaza Gilani, who was a nephew of former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, have been confirmed dead in the stampede at Mina.
Seven-year-old Samreen, a resident of Soraj Miani, and Aziz Mai, a resident of Bosan Road, also reportedly died in the incident.
Syed Asad Murtaza Gilani was the son of Makhdoom Syed Wajahat Hussain Gilani, the caretaker of the Musa Pak Shaheed shrine.
He was elected MNA on PPP ticket in 2002, but later he joined the PPP-Patriot and became parliamentary secretary for religious affairs.
He was 48.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif made a call to former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to express condolences over the death of his nephew.
According to family sources, the body of Asad Gilani has been shifted to the Pakistan House in Saudi Arabia and arrangements for its transporting to Multan are underway.
Samreen’s dead body was received by her father Mohamed Akram in Saudi Arabia and she was buried there.
Samreen’s father was a taxi driver in Saudi Arabia and he made arrangements for the Haj of his family. Samreen’s mother has also reportedly suffered injuries.
Aziz Mai had gone to perform Haj along with her husband Noor Mohamed. She was in the list of missing persons, but later her death was confirmed.
Her husband also received injuries.
