Parents need to change their lifestyle

Dear Sir,

I agree with the points made in Gaith Abdul Ghafoor’s letter “Changing for the better” (Gulf Times, November 25). I am impressed with the child’s views and his approach towards life; of course the credit goes to his parents.
Being a mother, I feel it is perfect for a school to start at 7am and finish by 1 or 2pm. Children learn more in the morning hours and are full of energy to gain and do more. Parents definitely have to change their lifestyle and curtail social activities during weekdays.
I am a working mother and have to be on my toes since I wake up early in the morning until I put my son to bed by 6:30pm. It is indeed tough and very tiring at times but as a parent we have to make this sacrifice.
When children sleep early and get the required amount of sleep, they wake up fresh and smiling. I have never struggled waking up my son in the morning. He wakes up early and has ample time to get ready and peacefully have breakfast before leaving for school. No nap time in the afternoon will get children to bed early. It’s a struggle in the beginning to make a schedule and stick to it. But once done, parents will feel the difference.
Parents surely need to adjust and change the timings to give a better life and develop healthy habits in their children. The aphorism,”Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”, is so apt, in my view.

Smoking hazard

Dear Sir,

I am in Qatar on a visit. The first thing that has struck me here is the large number of people smoking, even in public places like parks, bus stops, hotel foyers, etc. As  a non-smoker, I find this quite unbearable. Avoiding secondhand smoke is practically impossible. I fear this may even affect the tourism in Qatar if left unchecked.
Smokers have no consideration for others, it seems.
Authorities must clamp down on smoking in public places.

Great job by Family Consulting Centre

Dear Sir,

I would like to take the opportunity through your  newspaper to thank the Family Consulting Centre staff who did their best to solve my marital issues. I appreciate their dedication, efforts and wise guidance in trying to resolve the issues facing me and my wife.
The Family Consulting Centre is doing a great job. The counselling sessions conducted by the centre are thought-provoking and refreshing.
I sincerely hope and pray that the teachings and knowledge gained through the sessions will lead couples attending them towards the right path.
I also pray that the counsellors’ experience enlightens all the couples who have strayed from the path of righteousness and brings them back to the right track.
I hope and pray that all couples understand that separation and divorce can have a huge impact on their children with life-long consequences for them.
