Pakistan’s businessmen should initiate joint ventures with their Qatari counterparts as abundant investment and business opportunities are available in various sectors, said ambassador of Qatar Saqr bin Mubarak al-Mansouri.
Talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) vice-president Syed Mahmood Ghaznavi, the ambassador said Qatar was in dire need of skilled manpower and Pakistan could earn huge foreign exchange via manpower export to Qatar.
He stressed the need of developing a screening mechanism and added Qatar also needed Pakistan’s help in education, health and engineering sectors.
The LCCI vice-president said despite the fact Pakistan and Qatar were members of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) and had close diplomatic relations, these ties did not reflect in bilateral economic relations.
“The Lahore Chamber is ready to play an effective role in the promotion of economic co-operation between the two countries. Pakistani construction companies, if provided proper information, could assist Qatar since it is a potential market,” said Ghaznavi.
Likewise, he added, Qatar could benefit from the cheap and abundant workforce available in Pakistan for this purpose. “The LCCI can play a constructive role in bridging the information gap and promoting interaction between businessmen of the two countries.”
