Make Arabic compulsory
Dear Sir,
I would like to make a couple of suggestions to all schools in Qatar. These, I believe, will be for the betterment of students.
Make Arabic a compulsory subject.
First, I would like to suggest that school authorities must make Arabic a compulsory language just like English in the curriculum. Arabic should be taught at least until grade 8. I feel this is necessary as Qatar is an Arabic-speaking country and it is important for the people living here to have a grasp of the language.
This will also be helpful to those students who seek to have a job in an Arabic-speaking country in the future. Learning a new language is always an additional skill anyway.
Re-use of textbooks.
I would also like to suggest the school authorities to open a stall where they can take old books from students after paying back at least 75% of their original price, depending on the books’ condition, of course. The same set of books could be sold at a lower price to students of the next year. This will help end dumping of old textbooks and make use of the resources in an effective manner.
I hope these suggestions are considered for implementation by schools.

Bus fees must be based on distance
Dear Sir,
We have recently received a circular from the Birla Public School announcing a hike in its transportation fees: for three months from QR600 to QR630 (inside Doha ) and from QR750 to QR1,105 for (outside Doha).
The school, which is located in Abu Hamour, is charging QR1,105 for Al Wukair and QR630 for Umm Ghuwailina. These charges are as approved by the Supreme Education Council and the school apparently has nothing to do with it.
The transportation charges must based on the distance covered by the school bus and the authorities must analyse all the facts before approving such a burden to the common people.
