The number of people infected with the H1N1 influenza virus in Nepal has reached 14, authorities said yesterday. Ten people tested positive in the capital Kathmandu, and four people in the southern district of Chitwan, according to the government’s public health laboratory report. Of the infected, five had arrived from India recently. One person was said to be in critical condition. The first H1N1 strain was detected in throat swabs conducted in Kathmandu by the National Public Health Laboratory, the Kantipur newspaper quoted a lab technician saying. Health desks - which local media have said are poorly-equipped - have been set up at India-Nepal border points to check for flu.
