Chairman of Nepal’s constituent assembly (CA) Subas Chandra Nembang has asked lawmakers to avoid foreign trips until the promulgation of a new constitution.

The head of the constitution drafting body made the announcement in the meeting of constituent assembly yesterday, stating that such visits would affect the ongoing constitution drafting body, according to Xinhua.

“I also urge the political parties to stop the lawmakers’ visit to foreign countries,” Nembang said while addressing the constituent assembly. Currently, more than 50 lawmakers are visiting different countries.

Immediately after the ruling, former prime minister and senior leader of the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Baburam Bhattarai announced that he would not visit any country till the promulgation of the new constitution.

Last week, Bhattarai was elected as chairperson of the Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the CA.

Nembang is scheduled to meet heads of diplomatic missions to ask them not to invite lawmakers to visit their countries.
