Police clash with protesters defying restrictions for a Muharram procession in Srinagar yesterday.
Restrictions have been imposed in several areas of Srinagar to prevent Muharram processions, police said yesterday. “The restrictions have been imposed in Maisuma, Kralkhud, Kothibagh, Ram Munshibagh, Shergarhi, Shaheedgunj, Karan Nagar and Batmaloo areas to maintain law and order in Srinagar,” a senior police officer said. Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel have been deployed and no vehicular movement will be allowed in the areas. However, authorities said there is no restriction on movement during emergencies.
