The Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi yesterday fired fresh salvos at the Congress, terming the United Progressive Alliance a “mother-son” government.
He also raked up the alleged land deals of Robert Vadra saying the country wants to know about the “RSVP (Rahul, Sonia, Vadra, Priyanka) model.”
Addressing rallies in Assma and Bihar, the BJP leader said the Congress was sure to be defeated in the Lok Sabha elections.
In his rallies in Assam, Modi challenged Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to “a face-off” as they were both addressing rallies in the state.
“Rahul Gandhi, you are also in Assam today. I am also here. So let’s have a face-off,” Modi said at Barpeta. Gandhi addressed a rally in Nagaon.
Attacking the Congress and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Modi said: “Just tell me why is a mill here in Assam closed? What is your chief minister doing? He has been selected three times and he can’t even start a mill which will provide employment to the youth.”
Urging people to vote for the BJP, the Gujarat chief minister said the Congress will not do anything for the common man.
Hinting at the allegations that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi went through files from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said the country “cannot be run by remote control” and accused the ruling party of making false promises.
He urged voters to give the BJP at least 300 seats to form a strong government.
Addressing a rally in Katihar in Bihar, Modi raked up the alleged land deals by Gandhi’s son-in-law Vadra and said the country wanted to know about the “RSVP model.”
Modi, who has been under attack from the Congress over his Gujarat model of development, referred to Vadra and said India wants to know about the model in which “Rs1 lakh become Rs300 crore in four years.”
“They ask for RSVP in big functions. In India’s politics, we have RSVP too and a media house threw light on their activities,” Modi said.
“Rahul, Sonia, Vadra and Priyanka... this is the RSVP model. Rahulji, you talk on Gujarat model but the nation wants to know this model,” Modi said.
Referring to the UPA as a “mother-son” government, Modi urged people to get rid of the model for real development and change in their lives.
“If you want change in life and better days, get rid of the mother-son model of government. Vote for the BJP to form a strong and stable government to bring change in your lives,” he said.
Modi also addressed another election meeting in Supaul parliamentary constituency, where he again targeted the Gandhis as well as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Janata Dal-United party.
Rahul Gandhi meanwhile said the BJP has been making Hindus and Muslims fight against each other.
“The British made Hindus and Muslims fight with each other. The BJP is doing the same thing,” Gandhi said at a rally in Nagaon.
He said the Gujarat model of development only makes some rich people richer at the cost of the poor.
“The Gujarat government takes land of farmers and sells it to companies at a price of Re1 per sq m. Later, the companies sell the same land to other smaller companies at a price of Rs800 per sq m,” Gandhi said adding that 45,000 hectares of land have already been sold in the state.
“Assam will only benefit when there is a Congress government at the Centre. You have a Congress government in Assam, so the state can benefit only when there is a Congress government at the Centre,” he said.
He assured the people of bringing a bill for 33% reservation for women, reservation for 25% women in police, bank loans to women, right to food and free medicines for the poor.
