Back from the summer break, The Chuckle Club is returning to Doha with another awesome international line-up for two nights next month.
On September 7 at Dunes Lounge, The Grand Hyatt Hotel, and on September 8 at the Crowne Plaza, three cool comics will throw a big bunch of funnies at the audience.
Formed in 2011 in Bahrain, Punchline Media, the umbrella company for The Chuckle Club, focuses on event management and promotion. “Our company’s main objective is to deliver premium quality international talent and entertainment to the Middle East. Echoing the format of international comedy clubs, The Chuckle Club operates a regular tour which brings three popular international comedians to Dubai, Doha and Bahrain,” The Chuckle Club says.
The three stand-up acts lined up for the Doha gigs are worth the wait. Bruce Devlin, a 30-something stand-up comedian from Stockbridge, burst onto the Scottish comedy scene when he stole the show at a stand-up comedy course graduation showcase in October 2000. There, he was described as “a natural performer and in total control of the audience”. Devlin is a favourite at The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival and The Edinburgh Fringe, and he is considered a must-see.
The broadcaster-presenter-funnyman Devlin, who is a lot more than just a familiar face and voice on TV and radio in Scotland, has won hundreds of hearts with his original and over-the-top acts. Starting early 2001, he began regularly performing to a fast-growing fan base in central Scotland. “Bruce has notched up an impressive number of Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows including Three Fat Ladies: A Murder Mystery, and Stand Up Scotland,” says a bio on him.
It was his passion and love for comedy that made New Jersey-born comedian Kyle Grooms abandon his career as Art Director for a television network and perform comedy full time. Those who have caught his live shows speak of uniqueness in his searing worldviews, which also lend an intimate look into his life experiences growing up in the American melting pot.
“In just a few short years, Kyle has become one of the funniest young comics on the New York stand-up circuit with a host of TV and radio credits to his name,” says a note on the comedy star, “With a long list of notable accomplishments as an actor, writer and comic, Kyle has proven to be one of the industry’s must-see comics on the scene.”
All through his career, Grooms has appeared in his own hysterical half-hour stand-up special on Comedy Central, while also making multiple appearances on VH1, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and popular sketch comedy show, Chappelle’s Show.
“Among his many accomplishments, his first comedy CD, The Legend of the Jersey Devil, was named one of iTunes’ Top 100 Comedy CD’s of 2009. He has been featured on several television, radio and internet broadcasts, such as P- Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, Jamie Foxx’s Laffapalooza, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, The Byron Allen Show, BET Comic View, and Red Carpet Fashion,” says the note.
Comedian, writer and actor, Tom Toal hails from South-East London. “Toal performed his debut show On The Scrapheap about the break-up of his six-year relationship at the Edinburgh and Leicester Festivals in 2010 achieving widespread acclaim and reviews,” says a note on the rising comedy star.
The follow-up, Rom-Coms and Revolutions, continued in a similar vein playing to a complete sell out audience for the full run. “In 2013, Tom performed at The Comedy Reserve with The Pleasance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and in 2014, he became an Amused Moose Best Comedy Show finalist for his solo Edinburgh Festival Fringe Show, Tom Toal: Prequel,” the note adds.
