Kokoi Baldo,  known as ‘Bob Marley of the Philippines’ and K Brosas, the famous actress, comedienne, singer and television host, will be performing live in Doha on August 28 at Al Sadd Indoor Stadium.
Gracie Salanio-Ocampo, president of AZ Entertainment Hub, the organiser of the event, said the one-night live performance dubbed as Reggae and Laughter will be “an evening of music and an explosion of comedic chaos.”
Star singer Kokoi was born as Juan Manuel Baldo on September 7, 1979 in the town of Negros Occidental. Baldo often travelled to other islands to perform as a freelance musician. He came to Boracay to meet up with friends, but eventually fell in love with the popular island and called it home. In Voice of the Philippines, the 35-year-old reggae singer made the judges dance to the medley of his song One Day on the 1st episode of the second season of the popular music show.
When asked how he got into the reggae music scene, the barefooted, dreadlocked performer said that his mother used to sing the tunes of Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds while doing the laundry.
“Reggae and Laughter promises a night of pure entertainment as Kokoi returns to Doha with his new reggae songs,” Ocampo noted. K Brosas will bring the house down with her rib-tickling jokes and incorporating singing during her comedy act, according to Ocampo, who held a press conference recently to announce the event. The press meet was attended by members of the Filipino community and officials of AZ Entertainment.
Maria Carmela Brosas, better known by her screen name K Brosas, is an actress, comedian, singer and television host of dual Filipino and American citizenship. She was born in the Philippines to an American father and a Filipina mother and was a band member of Gladys and The Boxers and was lead singer when the group performed as K and The Boxers. In mid-2010, she became a co-host in the game show Pilipinas Win na Win. Recently, she has hosted and co-hosted many TV shows on multiple channels including Kris TV, It’s showtime, 3-in-1 and Quiet Please.
“The Reggae and Laughter concert’s new chemistry of Kokoi and K Brosas aims to raise the bar of entertainment in Qatar where fun is defined as enjoyable and where laughter will bring dose of happiness to every Filipino audiences,” Ocampo pointed out.
The Reggae and Laughter concert is the fourth major event of AZ Entertainment Hub, a premier Filipino event organiser in Qatar that brought Andrew E in 2014 and Boracay Blast early this year. Part of the event will include live performances of popular local Filipino bands in Doha such as Soundz of Era, Overtone, Air Suklay and Infinite Band.
They are known for their guitar riffs in various genres of reggae, acoustic, pop and rock music. Tickets cost QR150 (general admission) and QR250 (VIP). Online tickets can be purchased from q-tickets.com
The gates will be opened to the public at 6pm, an hour before the entertainment begins.
