HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani has underlined Qatar’s commitment to empowering young people and helping them become future leaders by equipping them with adequate knowledge.
He was speaking at the ‘Economic Empowerment of the Youth’ forum organised by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce at the Qatar University yesterday.
The forum was organised with a view to encouraging the youth to launch projects and developing innovative ideas, thereby promoting entrepreneurship in the country.
Sheikh Abdullah said HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani had drawn up the Qatar National Vision 2030 with the youth as its pillar.
“Its realisation relies on the youth’s excellence and contributions. We are confident of your abilities to accomplish many achievements in various sectors,” the Prime Minister told the nearly 1,400 young Qataris who attended the forum.
He explained that the government was working continuously to remove all obstacles and provide all means that qualified the youth to have access to new development ventures and enter the world of business and to contribute to a better future for Qatar.
In order to achieve these national objectives, Sheikh Abdullah noted that the government had drawn up a “plan for nationalisation and scholarships”. He said the formation of a committee tasked with exploring the labour market opportunities in the coming years had been approved.
He said the Qatar National Vision 2030 focused on “building a knowledge-based economy with reliance on youth innovation”.
Towards this, Qatar has laid down economic policies aimed at enhancing the private sector and empowering it to play a greater role in the country’s economic development, Sheikh Abdullah said.

MEC services targeting young entrepreneurs by November

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) is currently working on providing services related to young entrepreneurs, which should be ready by November this year.
This was stated by HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani at the ‘Forum for Empowering Youth’ at the Qatar University yesterday. The forum is held by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce on an annual basis to discuss challenges facing the country’s youth.
Sheikh Ahmed said the annual forum would help raise the awareness of youth on entrepreneurship which would help achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030. The vision was launched in 2008 and aimed at diversifying Qatar’s economy away from oil and gas.
He stressed that Qatar was moving firmly towards diversifying its economy.
Sheikh Ahmed said all government authorities were currently working on launching their initiatives which provide land, commercial and industrial activities as well as logistics to the private sector and young entrepreneurs.
He noted that current statistics showed that the average age of people beginning work was 32 years.
In addition to the low unemployment levels in the country, Qatar’s youth now had the option of starting their own business, the Minister noted.
On diversifying Qatar’s economy, Sheikh Ahmed said it could be realised by establishing a strong private sector capable of satisfying domestic demand in the industrial and services sector; or a private sector that was capable of exporting its products.
