Sundaresan, Chambers and al-Mulla among others at the 12th annual global council of the Institute of Internal Auditors in Beijing recently.

Two senior Institute of Internal Auditors (Qatar) members, Hassan al-Mulla, president, and Sundaresan Rajeswar, board member, attended the 12th annual Global Council of the Institute of Internal Auditors in Beijing, China recently.
In all, 143 delegates from some 75 countries, senior IIA leaders, staff and four associated organisations attended the key event.
“The active engagement by participants made this event a valuable experience and the co-hosts IIA-China extended hospitality, generosity, and outstanding efforts. Global Council is a unique opportunity for Institute leaders from around the world to collaborate, network, and share information on an informal basis,” said al-Mulla.
The discussion sessions focused on four key elements of the IIA’s 2015-20 Global Strategic Plan: capacity building, professionalism, advocacy/IIA as leader, and sustainable value.
Each of these topics was first presented in general sessions with brief introduction of the topic followed by a polling session where participants provided their responses to number of questions using instant polling technology. The results were instantly displayed that provided some insightful information and additional background to consider during the breakout discussion sessions.
The IIA’s strategic planning development process is proactive and visionary, engages with external stakeholders, incorporates perspectives from members who have knowledge of the needs of organisations and creates more partnerships that align local and global efforts.
“In a unique event, the IIA leaders from around the world participated in the collective commitment ceremony by symbolically signing in a pennant as affirmation to actively follow up, collaborate and remain engaged in all the issues, ideas and suggestions discussed. This commitment included furnishing two specific ideas of how each institute will support each of the strategic goals” Sundaresan said.
One of the keenly anticipated events of this leadership meet was presentation by Richard Chambers, President/ CEO of the IIA Global about the state of the internal audit profession around the world.
The IIA has 180,000 members in 170 countries. The flagship examination Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is available in some 19 languages with 130,000 qualified members.
