Qatar’s bilateral trade with the US has been steadily rising with Doha accounting for more than $5bn US imports in 2014, a release has said.
The trade volume between the two countries recorded $3.75bn in 2013, the Qatar Businessmen Association (QBA) said. Last year, the bilateral trade increased 86%.
The strong Qatar-US bilateral relationship was highlighted at a luncheon hosted in honour of a top-level US delegation led by US Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Stefan Selig by the QBA second deputy chairman Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani al-Thani at his majlis in Doha.
The QBA said Qatar is ranked the fourth largest destination for US exports in the Middle East and North Africa, while the US served as the largest foreign investor and exporter to Qatar. “With the value of US imports exceeding $5bn in 2014, in-demand American products include Boeing aircraft, cars, and trucks, which saw an increase in sales last year,” the QBA said.
Sheikh Dr Khalid noted that “Qatari-American relations are strong, and have witnessed a great improvement in recent years on many levels.”
Selig thanked the QBA “for the warm welcome.” He explained that the visit aims to discuss ways to further enhance economic co-operation and to encourage businessmen from both countries “to build stronger partnerships and overcome challenges that could prevent the increase in trade volume.”
