Qatargas has received two top awards from the British Safety Council (BSC) in recognition of the company’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programmes.

The company was the first Qatari organisation to be honoured with the “Sword of Honour” for occupational health and safety management and the “Globe of Honour” for environmental management in the area of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) shipping operations.

Qatargas was one of only four organisations worldwide to receive both the Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour in 2014. 

Also, the company was one of 50 organisations worldwide to receive a Sword of Honour, which is given to organisations that have demonstrated excellence in health and safety management.Similarly, Qatar gas was one of five organisations worldwide presented with a Globe of Honour, which is awarded to organisations that have demonstrated excellence in environmental management.

Qatargas CEO Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani said, “Through the hard work and dedication of the Qatargas Shipping Department, this is yet another milestone in achieving our vision to become the world’s premier LNG company. Today, we are proud to be the first Qatari organisation and one of only four companies worldwide to have achieved both of these highly-significant global recognitions in 2014.

He added, “We are committed to maintaining and enhancing our performance to ensure that we continue to meet the highest global standards through the years to come and strongly encourage others to join us on this journey towards health, safety, and environmental excellence.”

In order to compete for the Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour, Qatargas had to achieve the maximum five stars in the BSC’s occupational health and safety and environmental management audit scheme from August 2013 to July 2014.

At the same time, Qatargas had to demonstrate to an independent panel of experts that it was “excellent” in occupational health and safety and environmental management throughout the entire shipping operation.

BSC chief executive Alex Botha said, “Our warmest congratulations to 50 of our member organisations that have won the Sword of Honour and the five organisations that won the Globe of Honour. These awards recognise and celebrate the excellence of the winning organisations and their employees in managing health, safety, and environmental risks.” 

He added, “What all of the Sword and Globe winning organisations share is a commitment and resolve to achieve the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management and to keep their employees healthy and safe. We are delighted that they are partners in helping achieve our vision that no one should be injured or made ill at work.”
