Qatar Aluminium Extrusion Company (Qalex), the first local extruder in Qatar, has obtained the ISO 9001:2008 certification from TÜV Nord, Qatar.

The company with an annual extrusion capacity of 8,000 tonnes started commercial production in June 2012.

“The ISO 9001 certification is a confirmation that we have a top-class quality management system in place that ensures that we produce profiles that consistently meet the highest quality standards,” according to Abdul Rahman al-Ansari (pictured), chairman of Qalex and CEO of Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company, which holds 40% stake in the company.

The other shareholders are Salam International (20%), Alutec (10%), QREIC (10%), Aluminum Gulf Ray (10%), Qatar Oman Investments (5%) and Qatar Belgium Aluminum Company (5%).

Set up on a sprawling 28,000 sq m plot in the New Salwa Industrial Area, with modern extrusion facilities housed in a 13,000 sq m covered steel structure, Qalex has the capability to produce mill finish and powder coated profiles of various sizes and shapes.

It is in the process of expanding capacity, as well as adding facilities to produce other value added profiles, in line with changing market requirements and it is also designing own sophisticated architectural system, which will put the company in a different league, a QIMC spokesman said.

“With the ISO 9001 certification and the other exciting developments happening in the company, we are well positioned to cater to the aluminium needs of the industrial, infrastructure and construction sectors in Qatar,” according to al-Ansari.
