The first round of auditions for the singing and dancing reality show “Non-Resident Nepalese Star 2015” was held recently at Hyper Supermarket along Salwa Road.
The reality show is being organised by the Tamu Cultural Family (TCF) and Tamu Service Society (TSS). Chaired by TCF chairman Rajan Chale and community leader Purna KC, the programme saw some 60 performances by Doha-based Nepalese artists. Over 500 people — including entrepreneurs, community leaders and journalists watched the first day of the show.
The participants who entered in the dance category included: Rohit BC, Indra Gurung, Bed Bahadur Sunuwar, Mohan Thapa Magar, Dil Bahadur Magar, Puspa BC, Badri Shrestha, Kamal Sunuwar, Chitra Bahadur Puri, Mina Magar, Lem Devi Malla, Anjana Tamang, Micheal Chaudary, Jina Pulami, Bal Bahadur Rai and Rabina Tamang.
The participants who entered in the singing category included: Som Thapa Magar, Bimal Poudel, Debendra Garbuja, Indra Kumal, Deepak Limbu, Buparaj Rai, Summer Sunwar, Santosh Banjara, Subba Gurung, Dinesh Darja, Kamala Gurung, Arjun Pasban, Gokul Tharu, Raju Khatri, Rubin BC, Sushma Magar, Sunil Tamang, Sandesh Chamling, Santosh Lama, Jayanta Kumar Rajbankshi, Himal Limbu, Chandra Pariyar, Rajkumar Rana, Yogesh Khadka, Madhu Lama, Damodor Neupane, Yogesh Rai, Diran Mohara, Torun Basnest, Jyoti Gurung, Krishna BC, Ramesh Gurung, Subash BK and Surya Rai.
The singing category is being judged by singers Debika KC and Mangal BK, and the dancing category is being judged by choreographers Bhabindra Tamang (also the president of International Artists’ Forum) and Iswor Ballav Upreti.
TCF Advisor Bil Gurung said, “It was the first audition round so we had just two judges. From the next round, we also include guest judges in both categories.”
Entrepreneur Prabin Gurung contributed QR4,000 to the programme. Likewise, entrepreneur Uttam Gurung said he would sponsor the first prize of the dancing category.
Show co-ordinator Krishna Tamu said the winners will be groomed and promoted to a larger audience.
TSS artistes also performed a welcome Tamu cultural dance, decked up in traditional attire of Tamu society. Senior artistes including Rubina Lama, Birendra Shrestha, Kavita Tamang, Reet Kumar Shrestha and Tau Maya Gurung also performed.
TSS also honoured Prabin Gurung who was recently elected as the second vice-president of Nonresident Nepalese Association-National Coordination Council for his support to TSS.
