What state you are in and your mindset are two key factors that determine the success of your business. Your business corresponds with your personal state and your relationships affect both of them.
It is necessary to keep a balance between all of them in order to achieve the peak in your business and sustain it. And this balance can be achieved through internal and external development of your state.
Thus spoke Anand Chulani, the world renowned leadership and performance speaker from India, to businessmen members of the Qatar chapter of Entrepreneurs Organisation (EO), the world’s most influential network of entrepreneurs, during their recent get-together at ‘Banana Island Resort by Anantara’ recently.
“I always say, never settle. Keep innovating because if innovation stops your business is done. You are done. But most important is that you achieve both internal and external satisfaction through activating your state,” Chulani told the EO entrepreneurs.
His talk was the first learning event to be organised by the new EO board and attended by EO members and their guests, who spent part of the day visiting Qatar’s newest resort.
Chulani emphasised that leadership is not a one-dimensional concept or just a title or the ability to lead an organisation, it is rather excelling in all three dimensions of life such as personal, business and relationships.
At the end of his two-hour long high energy talk, Chulani shared with the participants tools that could effectively solve their individual business-related or what he calls their mindset related issues.
The motivational speaker shared a number of techniques with EO members on how they can structure the three dimensions to become more effective business leaders.
“Continuous education is at the core of the EO experience. In EO we learn from visiting speakers such as Anand Chulani, as well as from sharing our own real business experiences in our monthly EO Forums,” commented Abdullah al-Kubaisi, the Learning Chair of EO Qatar and one of the participants of the event.
Chulani also shared with the participants his renowned ‘Peak Performance Pyramid’ model, a system designed to continuously activate and empower leaders, teams and organisations in business, sport and entertainment to perform at their peak consistently, create a lasting legacy and achieve success on their terms.
“The key to any organisation is the psychology of its leadership and success is 80% psychology and 20% strategy,” said Chulani. He offers organisations a chance to create leaders who have the tools to get the best out of their talent, raise the leadership intelligence and standards of their team and take the organisation to the next level.
He works with Human Resource departments of the organisations to help them solve problems instead of just managing problems. “They manage paperwork and other related things, but they do not know how to get the best out of their resources. I optimise their resources. To me, HR should be called Human Resourcefulness,” said Chulani, talking to Community.
“If you do not go to the cause, you can actually perpetuate the problem. A company I worked with in Nigeria thought that solving the human problem was by throwing more money at them. And that did not solve the problem because they are throwing the money in the wrong direction,” added the renowned coach and speaker.
He has coached and been a legacy adviser to leaders in sports, business, and entertainment from CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies and elite family businesses to Hollywood and Bollywood stars to Olympic Gold Medal Athletes to IPL stars to IPL team Kings X1 Punjab.
He has worked as a strategic consultant and coach with CEOs and senior leadership of Fortune 500 companies and elite family businesses in India, Dubai, Africa and Europe such as Google, Disney, Reliance, BBC,  YES Bank, Parle Agro, Hero Motocorp, Nestle, Accenture, Airtel, Exonn Mobil, Credit Suisse, Cisco Systems, Toshiba, Turner Broadcasting, organisations such as YPO International and the International Association of Hostage Negotiators.
Prior to his career as a coach and speaker, Anand Chulani toured with Russell Peters as one of the “gurus of comedy”, acted in Hollywood movies and TV shows opposite stars like Jeff Goldblum and George Clooney and was the first Indian to ever write for an American sitcom, the Simpsons & Goodness Gracious Me.
“We believe that success is not just success in business but it also has to be success in life and success in all your relationships. Anand was really good today. It is a holistic approach that he shared with us,” Michael Portz, the President of EO Qatar, told Community.
Apart from the local events, EO organises gatherings in the regional as well combining their chapters in Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait and other regional cities.
“One of our events is called the EO Majlis which happens once a year and we get together with entrepreneurs in the region. Then there are global events and one of them is called Universities. They happen in different countries where the entrepreneurs travel to and get more professional education,” said Portz.
Explaining EO and its working, the president of the organisation’s Qatar chapter said it started about 40 years ago by a small group of people who would gather every month to share experience and talk about their businesses.
They were business people, who felt they needed somebody else to speak with about their challenges and their businesses and what they are doing in life.
“And the only people who would understand what they are going through are other business people. That makes sense,” said Portz. From that small group, the organisation went bigger and spread across the world.
At the core of EO are forums which are a group of six to ten people that meet every month where they go through a structured format to share learning.
“We always only share real learning which is very important. It is not about something that you might have learnt at a university or heard from somebody. It is always about the members’ personal experiences and their stories,” emphasised Portz.
EO Qatar was founded just about five years ago and they have two of the forums with about 10 people in each of them who get together every month. The purpose is to share learning and help each other grow, said the president.
EO is a global network of more than 11,000 successful Entrepreneurs in 48 countries with combined annual sales of over US $536 billion. The EO Qatar Chapter was established in 2009 and currently, has 30 members who employ in excess of 3,000 employees. All its members are self-made entrepreneurs and own successful businesses meeting the membership criteria of EO.
Members of EO in Qatar are a diverse mix of Qataris and expatriates from Europe, the Middle East, North America and Asia. Their businesses are involved in various sectors including Public Relations, Legal Services, Hospitality, Wireless Communications, Multi-media, On-line Services, Business Process Outsourcing, Publishing, Consumer Product Manufacturing, Retail, Green Technologies and Renewable Energy.
