The Miteri Film Cultural Group (MFCG) organised a musical event entitled Miteri Dhamaka last Friday at Quality Hypermarket on Salwa Road. Twenty Nepalese artistes entertained a crowd of more than 500 people.
MFCG President Suman Bharati and International Artists’ Forum (IAF) President Bhabindra Tamang chaired the event.
Folk singer Khuman Adhikari was the first artiste to perform during the programme that started with a one-minute silence for civilians and security personnel who recently lost their lives in political violence in Nepal.
Adhikari performed twelve songs. Fiercely energetic, Adhikari said he never tires of singing. “If I get such encouragement from the audience, I can sing as much as fifty times this,” Adhikari said, while appreciating the response from the audience. He also performed Teej songs — traditional melodies performed during the monsoon festival for Hindu women. He also performed a dohari — a duet folk song — with singer Laxmi Dhakal.
Also a lyricist and musician, singer Adhikari has already performed in more than 30 countries, and has recorded more than 6,000 songs. He has also recorded 15 songs in a single day, a record among Nepalese artistes. This year, in just two months, he recorded 17 songs.
Another singer, Laxmi Dhakal performed four funny songs. Dhakal has already performed seven times at different venues in Qatar. Singer Sunila Gurung, fifth time performer in Qatar, sang five of her songs from her recent album. Her songs revolved around Nepal’s Great Quake of April 25.
Model-dancer Mina Tamang performed five dances on songs from Nepalese movies, encouraging the audience members to also get on their feet.
Nepalese Star 2015 third place finisher Suresh Lama performed three songs. Nepalese Cultural Center artistes Yasoda Basnet, Madhu Lama, Binod Lama and Rubina Lama performed a traditional dance sequence that sketched the lifestyle in ancient Nepal.
Rhythm Art Center artiste Puspa KC performed one folk dance.
Some 20 artistes from UNI dance group paid a tribute to Michael Jackson by performing his steps. The group was awarded QR700 and QR550 by Helping Hand Youth Society and Non-Resident Nepalese Association, respectively.
OB Raymagi and Bikram Budathoki from Basanta Film Artists performed a dance on Nepali Teej song.
Artistes Rit Kumar Shrestha and Nanu Ghale performed a dohari song about the role of age in relationships. Multilingual singer Bijaya Ranapayali performed songs in Bhojpuri, Nepali, Hindi and Maithili languages.
During the programme, MFCG honoured Bhumi Raj Karki and Hem Bahadur Karki for their support for the organisation.
The programme was supported by Nepalese Cultural Center, International Artists’ Forum, UNI Dance Group, Nepalese Cultural Center, Basanta Films, and Rhythm Art Center. Birendra Lama and Sudip Timilsina were the co-ordinators of the musical event. The event was hosted by Rit Kumar Shrestha, Nanu Ghale and Iman Singh Thakuri. It was sponsored by Social Contracting and Cleansing Services and Daisy Contracting and Trading Company.
