The Embassy of Nepal in Doha will shift within two weeks. They are already looking for a suitable building in Abu Hamour, Al Hilal, Al Rayyan, Ain Khaled, Mamoura or Al Thauma, said Chargé d’ Affaires Mani Ratna Sharma in a meeting with community leaders on Monday.
Sharma said the embassy is looking for a more spacious building than the existing one. “The new office building needs to have as much as 18 rooms, and should have parking space for at least 20 cars,” Sharma said.
The meeting was attended by journalists and representatives of non-resident Nepalese organisations in Doha.
The embassy has so far received QR1,185,722 in donations from Qatar for the earthquake victims. The contributions have come in from 120 Qatar-based Nepalese welfare organisations, Nepalese and Qatari entrepreneurs, and the Indian community, according to an official report issued by the embassy. The report also said that many people and organisations have also sent their contributions directly to organisations working in Nepal, instead of contributing to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
In the meeting, Sharma said they expect a delegation from Nepal’s government to visit Qatar soon. “The visiting officials will gather information about the condition of the migrant workers and focus on the future possibilities in the Qatari job market for Nepalese youths,” Sharma said.
Each year, the Government of Nepal sends its officials to Qatar to get information on the condition of Nepalese workers in Qatar.
The delegation will also hold meetings with Qatari officials to discuss the bilateral ties between the two countries, Sharma said. Qatar is a prime destination for workers from Nepal.
There are about 400,000 Nepalese working in Qatar, according to the most recent data with the embassy.
