Groups of photographers will be holding a shoot dubbed as ‘United for Nepal’ on May 22 at Hilton Hotel, to help earthquake victims in Nepal.
Initiated by Yezenia Navaro, chair and founder of Queens without Scars, through the Embassy of Nepal in Doha, the event will be organised by a number of photography groups with the support of Hilton Hotel Doha and Qatar Red Crescent.
The first part (8:30am to 1:00pm) will be open for photography enthusiasts only while the second part will involve all individuals.
June Delgado from the Web Alliance of Radical Photographers (Warp) said they want to help those who were affected by the earthquake in Nepal in their own little way.
The second part of the event (1pm – 4pm) will include children’s activities, which will be led by the Zumba Fiesta Kids, Laura Knight Academy of Dance, Latin American Folkloric Ballet-Qatar, and Tae Kwon Do Kids. It also will feature other attractions.
Participants will have the chance to take portraits with a professional studio set up.
The photography groups spearheading the event include Warp, Doha Pinoy Shooters Club, Pinoy Lente Qatar, The Catchers of Light Qatar, and Picture in Action Photography Club-Doha.
Delgado said eight models (American, South Korean, Iraqi, Brazilian and Spanish) have expressed their willingness to volunteer and be part of the charity work.
These photography groups have organised numerous shoot-for-a-cause activities, attracting enthusiasts, amateur and professional photographers.
While majority of their members are Filipinos, some groups also have members from other expatriate communities such as Malaysians, Indonesians, Indians and Mexicans.
Photography has been a popular hobby among Filipinos in the country. Away from their families and relatives, they consider it as their “medicine” for being homesick.
Some photos taken from their events are posted on social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
